Flowers in your hair

Day 8 - Saturday, April 5, 2008

We went to San Francisco with Scott & Kirstin. Great day. Luckily for us, Sarah's knowledgeable hosts are inordinately patient, and are fantastically generous tour guides.

Pictures first, and I'll likely add some more words later...

The home of the 49ers

Here it is... land is at a premium, and the city is full. Pity. Why would there be less than 1 million here and 20 million in LA?? There's no accounting for taste...

Braving the elements to check out the golden arches

It was pretty cold! Scott could have made a living wondering around offering to take pictures of young couples for $5 each time. There were heaps of them.

A Frank Lloyd Wright Designed Retail Art Gallery

This was a spectacular round room with a spiral stair case up to a display level. All the artifacts on display were for sale. There was a nice 6th century Khmer stone statue I was thinking of getting, but it wouldn't quite have matched my decor. And it was slightly chipped.

...Oh, and it was USD$95,000...

Inside the Grace Cathedral (Catholic)

This was a spectacular Cathedral. Lots worth commenting. Interesting artwork. Both beautiful, and terribly un PC. Paintings of conquistadors and crusaders...

Sarah was very impressed and said she'd like to get married here. Unfortunately she lives in Australia. Hang on, isn't Bobby coming over and meeting her in San Francisco? And hasn't she been riding in police cars that contain shot guns?? There could be a conspiracy here...
